TEEN ARRESTED FOR LUNGING AT WOMAN WITH KNIFE IN FLATIRON
Police arrested a teenager for menacing and weapons possession at the corner of Broadway and East 19th Street on Tuesday, July 19 at 1:35 p.m. The victim told police that the teen was harassing her and she told him to leave her alone. At that point, the suspect reportedly turned around and pulled out a knife, then lunged at the victim multiple times. The suspect fled the location but was stopped in front of 29 East 21st Street, where the victim pointed him out to police
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR SCOOTER THEFT ON FIRST AVENUE
Police arrested 18-year-old Henry Cubilete for allegedly stealing a motorized scooter from the corner of First Avenue and East 16th Street on Saturday, July 21 at 2:49 a.m. Police said that Cubilete was working with four other people who weren’t arrested, and the group was allegedly using bolt cutters to cut a lock and remove a scooter that was secured at the location.
Police said that Stuy Town security officers attempted to apprehend Cubilete but the suspect tried to flee the location and allegedly held his hands under his body to prevent being handcuffed. Cubilete was allegedly found with an unregistered motor scooter with the license plate removed, in addition to burglary tools. Cubilete was charged with grand larceny of auto, illegal possession of a vehicle, burglars tools, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, an unclassified public administration misdemeanor and an unclassified traffic infraction.
MAN NABBED FOR EAST 26TH STREET ASSAULT
Police arrested 32-year-old Juan Hernandez for an alleged assault that took place in front of 11 East 26th Street, home to the Museum of Mathematics on June 17 at 3:57 a.m. Police said that Hernandez’s wife asked the victim, a man in his 60s, for some water and the victim said no. In response, Hernandez allegedly poked the victim in the eye and hit him with a broomstick multiple times, causing a broken arm, police said.
Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday, July 18.
MAN ARRESTED FOR IPAD THEFT
Police arrested 51-year-old William Roess for an alleged theft from in front of 42 East 13th Street on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:43 a.m. Police said that Roess took an iPad from a bag while it was in front of the East 13th Street location. The victim tracked the device with the Find My iPhone app and found Roess to a location on Sixth Avenue between West 27th and West 28th Streets, where he was waiting for a bus. When he was stopped, police reportedly found the victim’s iPad inside a bag that Roess was carrying. Roess was charged with petit larceny.
MAN CHARGED WITH RANDOM ASSAULTS ON WEST 27TH
Police arrested 25-year-old Mamadou Diop for an alleged assault at the corner of Broadway and West 27th Street on Friday, July 20 at 9:19 a.m.
One of the victims told police that he was walking west on West 27th Street just past Broadway around 8:20 a.m. on Friday when Diop allegedly punched him in the chest and continued to walk east on West 27th Street towards Broadway.
A second victim told police that he was walking east on West 27th Street around 9 a.m. approaching Broadway when Diop allegedly took a cigarette butt and pressed it against the victim’s neck, causing redness and swelling. The victim told police that Diop held onto the cigarette and continued walking west on West 27th Street and he was arrested shortly after.
Police recovered five small bags of a green leaf substance when Diop was arrested. Diop was also charged with menacing and possession of marijuana.
MEN BUSTED FOR BEER THEFTS FROM DUANE READE STORES
Police arrested two men for allegedly swiping beer on multiple occasions from different Duane Reade locations.
Miguel Cruz, 34, and Efrain Rodriguez, 47 were arrested for an alleged theft from 300 East 23rd Street on Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 a.m. Police said that Cruz and Rodriguez took beer from the Duane Reade and allegedly left the store without paying. After they were arrested, they were additionally charged in connection with other thefts from other Duane Reades.
Police said that Rodriguez and Cruz took beer from the Duane Reade at 401 Park Avenue South on May 31 at 9:15 a.m., June 1 at 7:45 a.m., June 7 at 8:45 a.m., June 12 at 5:53 a.m., June 13 at 1:40 p.m., June 14 at 4 a.m. and July 17 at 6:15 a.m. They allegedly also took beer from the Duane Reade at 300 East 23rd Street on June 8 at 2:45 p.m., June 10 at 1:09 p.m., June 29 at 7:15 a.m. and July 11 at 8:10 p.m.
Rodriguez was separately charged for allegedly taking beer from the Duane Reade at 180 West 20th Street on March 1 at 8:38 a.m.
Both were charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property in connection with the incident on East 23rd Street. Rodriguez was charged in connection with 13 petit larcenies. Cruz was charged in connection with 12 petit larcenies.
WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PROSTITUTION INSIDE FIFTH AVENUE SPA
Police arrested two women for alleged prostitution and a manager for promoting prostitution on Thursday, July 19 at 5:50 p.m. inside Garden Retreat spa at 253 Fifth Avenue and 28th Street. Police said that a 32-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman agreed to give undercover officers a happy ending in exchange for cash. Police also arrested 47-year-old Xian Yu Huang inside the spa because she allegedly aided and abetted the women to practice unlicensed massages in a business where she said she was manager and partial owner. Huang was charged with an unclassified felony and with promoting prostitution.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING MOTHER
Police arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly strangling a woman inside 224 East 28th Street on July 16. Police said that the man choked the victim, his 67-year-old mother, during an argument. He was also charged with endangering vulnerable elderly and assault. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, July 18 at 9 a.m. inside the 13th precinct. The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR CAR BREAK-IN
Police arrested 33-year-old Corey Carson for petit larceny and possession of stolen property at the corner of Second Avenue and East 26th Street on Sunday, July 22 at 8:20 p.m. Police said that Carson tried the handles of several vehicles on the street before gaining access to a car, then allegedly removed several items before getting out of the car. Police said that when officers approached him, he dropped the items and a witness pointed him out to police.
