Police arrested two teenagers for shooting multiple people with a BB gun air rifle from an apartment inside the Straus Houses last week.
Rickey White,18, and a 16-year-old boy allegedly fired the air rifle out of an apartment window from 224 East 28th Street on Sunday, August 26 around 1 p.m.
Police said that White’s mother handed the black Daisy Air Rifle BB Gun to the teen and both boys allegedly told police that they used the gun to shoot at four different people on the street from an apartment. Police also said that the 16-year-old could be seen on video using the gun to shoot at individuals on the sidewalk.
One woman who was walking down the sidewalk said that she was struck by metal pellets that caused bruising, redness and pain to her hip. Another victim told police that he was struck by metal pellets that caused redness, bruising and pain to his collarbone. The third victim told police that she was walking by the building when she felt a small, hard object strike her wrist, causing a welt, a cut, bleeding and substantial pain. The last victim told police that she felt metal pellets hit her in the back of her neck and head, causing a welt and substantial pain.
White and the teenager were charged with assault, reckless endangerment and weapons possession. The name of the 16-year-old is being withheld due to his young age.
