Police Watch: ACS teen charged with robbery, Suspect caught in cell phone snatching

ACS TEEN CHARGED WITH ROBBERY
Police arrested 18-year-old Rayshawn Weir for an alleged robbery inside the Administration for Children’s Services facility at 492 First Avenue on Wednesday, June 20 at 9:20 p.m. Police said that earlier that day, Weir snatched a man’s cell phone at East 20th Street and Second Avenue and physically shoved him. The victim, a man in his 30s, was not seriously injured and police caught up with Weir at the facility, where he is a resident.

SUSPECT CAUGHT IN CELL PHONE SNATCHING
Police arrested 20-year-old Josiah Butts for alleged grand larceny and theft in front of 37 West 23rd Street on Monday, June 18 at 12:43 p.m. Police said that Butts grabbed the victim’s cell phone out of her hands while she was standing on the sidewalk. Police searched the area around the southeast corner of West 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue immediately after the incident and the victim positively identified Butts as the person who had taken her cell phone.

STORE EMPLOYEE ACCUSED OF STEALING LAPTOPS
Police arrested a 36-year-old man for alleged grand larceny and possession of stolen property on Tuesday, June 19 at 3:18 p.m. Police said that Shannon Jex stole laptops from Mike’s Tech Shop at 120 West 20th Street on March 2 and June 16. Jex reportedly stole 12 laptops in March and allegedly sold them on Craigslist and police said that Jex also stole a Macbook Pro from the store in June. He was also allegedly in possession of small baggies of alleged cocaine when he was arrested and was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

MAN CHARGED WITH GROPING WOMAN ON SIDEWALK
Police arrested 55-year-old Miguel Garrido for alleged sexual abuse in front of 184 Fifth Avenue on Thursday, June 21 at 2:15 p.m. Police said that Garrido was walking north on Fifth Avenue when he intentionally grabbed a woman in an intimate part of her body.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING WIFE
Police arrested a 35-year-old man for endangering the welfare of a child, assault and criminal mischief in front of a building on East 28th Street in Kips Bay on Monday, June 18. Police said that the suspect aggressively grabbed the victim and pulled her out of a vehicle, then punched her in the face several times, causing injuries to her lips and nose. The victim told police that she got a bloody nose as a result and that she was holding her one-year-old baby at the time of the incident. The suspect also allegedly said that he didn’t care that the victim had her baby with her, and said that he would hurt her family and kill her. The suspect’s name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

SUSPECTS NABBED FOR ALLEGED DRUG DEAL
Police arrested two people involved in an alleged drug deal in front of 130 East 29th Street on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:20 p.m. Police said that 66-year-old Eric Jarrels was in a hand-to-hand transaction with 26-year-old Derrick Gordon and the two exchanged cash for an alleged crack cocaine. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance and Gordon was additionally charged with intent to sell and sale of a controlled substance.

MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED BIKE THEFT
Police arrested 45-year-old Tony Scott for alleged possession of stolen property, burglar’s tools, petit larceny, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance in front of 120 East 23rd Street on Wednesday, June 20 at 4:49 p.m. Police said that Scott was seen cutting a bike lock in an attempt to steal a bicycle and he allegedly had bolt cutters in his hands. Police said that he was also in possession of multiple credit cards that didn’t belong to him, in addition to a quantity of an alleged controlled substance.

WOMAN ALLEGEDLY BITES BELLEVUE WORKER
Police arrested 30-year-old Hazel Castro inside Bellevue Hospital at 462 First Avenue on Friday, June 22 at 3:30 a.m. Police said that while a staff member at the hospital was trying to restrain Castro, she allegedly bit him on his right pinky finger, causing pain, swelling and a cut.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Police arrested 29-year-old James Mossetty for disorderly conduct, an unclassified misdemeanor and resisting arrested at the corner of Sixth Avenue and West 25th Street on Sunday, June 24 at 6:52 p.m. Police said that Mossetty left a cab without paying the fare and after the driver pointed Mossetty out to police, the suspect allegedly approached the officers and acted in a violent manner, allegedly striking the police radio from the officer’s hand. Police pepper-sprayed Mossetty to restrain him and he was apprehended at West 26th Street. He also allegedly tensed his arms behind his back, refusing to be handcuffed.
