MEN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE OFFICE BURGLARIES
Police arrested three people for multiple alleged commercial burglaries that took place throughout the month of June. Nineteen-year-old Marcus White, 23-year-old Devonte Chavous and 27-year-old Wilfredo Martinez were ultimately arrested at 49 West 23rd Street on Friday, June 29 at 4:14 a.m. after police said they forced open a locked door there.
Once they were arrested, all three men were all charged in connection with two additional burglaries that took place previously. Police said that on June 22, the men broke into two different offices at 72 Madison, allegedly smashing a window to get inside and taking multiple laptops at each office.
Chavous was also charged in connection with five other burglaries that took place previously throughout the precinct.
Police said that Chavous also broke into an office at 12 West 27th Street sometime between June 8 and June 11 and allegedly stole multiple laptops. Chavous allegedly attempted to break into a building at 30 West 26th Street on June 10 around 3 a.m. but he wasn’t able to gain access to any of the offices or steal any laptops in this incident. Police said that Chavous pushed through the front door at 245 Fifth Avenue on June 14 around 2 a.m. and allegedly stole laptops from an office in the building. He allegedly broke into an office at 233 Park Avenue South on June 11 at 5 a.m. to steal multiple laptops. Chavous allegedly broke into an office at 28 West 25th Street in the overnight hours of June 18 and reportedly stole multiple laptops.
White, Chavous and Martinez were charged with burglary and trespassing.
MAN BUSTED FOR BIKE THEFT FROM STUY TOWN
Police arrested 28-year-old Juan Vargas for grand larceny and possession of stolen property inside 453 East 14th Street on Thursday, June 28 at 5:11 a.m. An STPCV public safety officer said that he saw Vargas removing a bicycle from the building. Police said that Vargas admitted to officers that he took the bike.
MAN FOUND WITH WOMAN’S MISSING PHONE IN FLATIRON
Police arrested 58-year-old James Branch for alleged possession of stolen property at the corner of Madison Avenue and East 25th Street on Monday, June 25 at 1:58 a.m. The victim told police that she misplaced her cell phone while she was in Union Square Park earlier that evening. She noticed that her cell phone wasn’t on her when she was heading home and when she went back to where she was sitting, she couldn’t find her phone as well as one of her credit cards. She then called police, who were able to track her phone to the Madison Square Park location, and the victim’s cell phone was allegedly recovered from Branch’s pocket. Police said that it was not clear if Branch had stolen the phone from somewhere in Union Square.
MEN ACCUSED OF ‘CRACK’ SALES ON EAST 23RD STREET
Police arrested 53-year-old William Lyons for the alleged sale of a controlled substance in front of 145 East 23rd Street on Wednesday, June 27 at 1:21 p.m. Police said that Lyons was arrested for the sale of crack cocaine to an undercover officer on a previous occasion. Police also arrested 51-year-old Raymond Rodriguez at the time for the alleged sale of a controlled substance for reportedly selling crack cocaine to undercover officers on two previous occasions.
MAN ARRESTED FOR RANDOM ASSAULTS
Police arrested 47-year-old Andre Gadsden for assault at the corner of the FDR and East 23rd Street on Thursday, June 28 at 11:37 p.m. Gadsden allegedly punched a man and a woman in the face with the intent to cause personal injury. Police said that Gadsden and the two victims were strangers.
MAN ARRESTED FOR LAPTOP THEFT FROM KFC
Police arrested 42-year-old Christopher Keppel for grand larceny and possession of stolen property in front of 239 First Avenue on Friday, June 29 at 10:09 p.m. Police said that Keppel removed a computer inside the KFC at 242 East 14th Street that was in front of a person who was sleeping inside the restaurant. Police said that Keppel could be seen taking the item via surveillance footage.
MAN ACCUSED OF SPITTING AT OFFICER
Police arrested 50-year-old Sean Graham for a violation inside Bellevue Hospital at 462 First Avenue on Friday, June 29 at 6:16 a.m. Police said that Graham was acting in an erratic manner and was allegedly resisting hospital staff who were attempting to restrain him. While staff were attempting to restrain him, Graham allegedly spit in the face of a staff member and an officer. Police said that while they were attempting to return funds to Graham while he was in a holding cell, he spit in an officer’s face.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED DRUG SALE IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 44-year-old Levon Huggins for intent to sell an alleged controlled substance on Monday, June 25 at 5:10 p.m. at the corner of East 16th Street and Union Square East. Police said that Huggins and another person sold a quantity of an alleged controlled substance to an undercover officer in exchange for cash. When the suspect was searched, police said that Huggins was in possession of alleged heroin and marijuana.
COPS ON LOOKOUT FOR BANK-ROBBING SENIOR
The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a man they say robbed two banks (one twice) in Chelsea.
On Thursday, June 28 at 1:45 p.m., he demanded cash from a teller at Bank of America, located at 127 8th Avenue. He got $120 and fled.
On Monday, July 2 at 8:45 a.m., he went back to the same bank, threatened the teller and demanded cash. This time, the teller walked away from the transaction window and the suspect fled emptyhanded.
Less than an hour later, at approximately 9:23 a.m., the id man walked into a Capital One Bank located at 401 West 23rd Street. He threatened the teller and demanded money. The teller complied and the man ran out with an undetermined amount of cash.
The suspect is described as white, approximately 5’6”, with a slim build and white hair. He was last seen wearing a red polo and green jacket.
